  It is a condition, which is characterized by inflammation of appendix. The appendix is a closed-ended, narrow tube, which can be of several inches in length that attaches to the cecum like a worm. This small structured appendix has no known essential purpose, but that doesn't mean it can't cause problems. Symptoms It may have various symptoms but the main symptom of appendicitis is pain that typically begins around your navel and then shifts to your lower right abdomen. The pain of appendicitis usually increases over a period of six to 12 hours, and eventually may become very severe. If you are having appendicitis and as the inflammation spreads to nearby tissues, the pain may become sharper and more severe. Eventually, the pain tends to settle in your lower right abdomen which is near your appendix and which is known as McBurney point. This point is about halfway between your navel and the top of your right pelvic bone. In different cases, location of your pain may vary, as it depends on your age and the position of your appendix. Young children or pregnant women, especially, may have appendicitis pain in different places. Here are some additional symptoms which can come along with naval pain and these are nausea and sometimes vomiting, loss of appetite, a low-grade fever that starts after other symptoms appear, constipation, inability to pass gas, diarrhea, abdominal swelling. Causes It is thought that appendicitis begins when the opening from the appendix into the cecum becomes blocked. The blockage may be due to a build-up of thick mucus within the appendix or to stool that enters the appendix from the cecum. Causes of appendicitis’s are not very clear but it can result to an obstruction when food waste or a hard piece of stool can become trapped in an orifice of the cavity that runs the length of your appendix.
